General Description
Ton'keenas are a curious, adaptable, energetic catfolk people. They arguably are the most dominant sentient race in Heibesu and possibly the whole world. Ton'keenas are a matriarchal race (with the exception of the Ameiko Clan and some Wild Mainland tribes). A millennia ago they were but a tribal folk that settled down, then formed various nations and cultures. Not all Ton'keena nations are vast, but they are always well defined if not as stable as that of other races. The citizens of these countries tend to carve a name for themselves. The Ton'keena are an individualistic folk, who tend to appreciate the value of hard work and shiny things. Ton'keena are known to be a varied and multicultural race, though their unhampered curiosity and ambition raises concerns amongst other races. In many places, Ton'keena are bewildered by other races, who generally are very different from them (mostly the Dwarf race and the noble Kitsune). However, the sentiment is not always reciprocated : Ton'keenas are viewed with suspicion by other peoples, who see them as too greedy and enthusiastic for their own good.
Physical Description : Ton'keena are slender and generally short, though not as small as dwarf races. They have many feline features, including a tail, cat-like ears, fur in some places, and developed teeth. However they lack the claws of their non-sentient cousins. Whiskers are not guaranteed and tend to recess with each new generation, and hair and eye colour varies greatly.
Society : There are many Ton'keena societies, each organized in their own way. Ton'keena societies, while by no means new, tend to be in a constant state of flux, and are far less established than the Dwarven empires. Even the great nations of Catharia, Daaria, and Heibesu fall to this issue : Heibesu's wars of conquests and unity or the constantly shifting politics of the Catharian Empire are proof that even the greatest Ton'keena cultures are not quite as solid as many Ton'keena would like them to be. A universal constant at least in those three main cultures is the pursuit of happiness and the accumulation of wealth, though the exact ways they culturally show are very different.
Relations : Ton'keena often run into other races, driven by curiosity, trade, and their sheer numbers. In many cases, this has led to interracial wars, such as the Dwarven wars in Heibesu and Daaria, the Kitsune Troubles of Catharia, and the ancient annihilation of the Naga and Merfolk. However, Ton'keena are also keen to make peace with their neighbours, if just to further their trade. Ton'keena tend to remain slightly arrogant, especially towards the Dwarves and Tengu, though they show near reverence to their Kitsune neighbours. They are warily considered by Dwarves, for whom their matriarchal societies and aggressive expansion reminds them of their ancient Drowish foes.
Religion and Alignments : Ton'keena follow many religions, though most of them revolve around the Awakening, magic, and the strange spirits that inhabit the world, the Oni Reiki and the divine Hikai. There are several major Ton'keena faiths. In Heibesu, the Cult of the Void is the most followed - the Void is what surrounds and makes up everything and where magic is said to come from. There are also the Thousand Steps of Daaria, the Fellowship of Saiah, and even non-Ton'keena faiths such as the Hikaiko Teachings.Generally, Ton'keenas can be of any alignment.
Adventurers : Ton'keena are driven by their ambition, greed, or just curiosity and at such are quick to embark on adventures. They are flexible and can easily fill any role in an adventuring party.

Subracial Packages
Ton'keena must belong to one of the following subraces :
Half-blood: The offspring of Kitsune and Ton'keena are inevitably half-blooded Ton'keena. They are usually not always well tolerated in either side of their families, but they look almost undistinguishable from normal Ton'keena, if not for the slightly bushier body hair. While they do not share their vulpine heritage's ability to shapeshift or acute magical potential, they retain some traits from their Kitsune parents. Half-blood Ton'keena can choose one of the Kitsune subracial packages.
High Mane : The Ton'keena breed known as High Manes for their primitive, feral features are creatures of arcane mysteries. They are more attuned to the magic around them, which allows them to cast runeless magic, a feat no other breed can hope to achieve. Yet they are not Kitsune, for they appear somewhat randomly in Ton'keense lineages. Most of them are tracked by the Chantry in case their magical abilities become a liability to the Empire. High Mane Ton'keena gain a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance and a +2 racial bonus on dispel checks. They are also allowed to take the Sorcerer base class, unlike other Ton'keena.
Nightprowlers: Nightprowl Ton'keena are a rare breed, set apart by their darker fur and larger eyes. These Ton'keena feel more at home at night or in the darkness than in the light of day. Nightprowl Tonkeena automatically pinpoint any creature they hear with a Perception check, and gain a +2 bonus to Perception checks in low light conditions.
Pureblood: Pureblooded Ton'keena are by far the most common in the Empire. They build cities and towns, attend formal schooling and live to better themselves. Pureblood Ton'keena may choose any two Craft, Knowledge or Profession skills. They gain a +2 racial bonus to all checks using those skills.
Wildcat: Wildcat Ton'keena live apart from the cities and towns of the Empire, hunting and living off the land in small family groups. They improve the attack bonus granted by Flanking by +1, and gain a +2 bonus to Survival checks to track a target or forage for food.
